                                                                OVERVIEW

                                                                This is an exciting opportunity to undertake training in basic winter skills, which are essential for hillwalking in the UK mountains under winter conditions.
                                                                And where best for this to be undertaken, than in the stunning Cairngorm mountains within the largest national park in the UK.
                                                                The Cairngorms have 5 of the highest mountains in the UK and have plateau's climbing over the 1000+m, the highest & most extensive range of arctic mountain landscape anywhere in the British Isles.
                                                                These essential skills being taught are covered below and the programme is fairly flexible taking into account individual needs and aims, weather etc.

                                                                Technical sessions will include the use of:
                                                                        *An ice axe for walking, cutting steps and self arrest;
                                                                        *Putting on and use of crampons in ascent/descent;
                                                                        *Digging and use of emergency shelters;
                                                                        *Basic avalanche and weather awareness.

                                                                On Day Two, we will go out and explore these spectacular mountains, giving you the opportunity to put your new found skills to good use. If time allows on the walk, navigation and route choice will be discussed and practiced.
